Here is a simple ingress Story Door Studio created that shares views of an open prairie with its owners. Situated across the room from a wall of windows, the green grass of the surrounding countryside is pulled into this interior door. The glow from the room’s wood stove at night is a completely different experience.

Filtered shellac and wax finish. Reclaimed pine for the rails, stiles and cross-bars. Local stained glass panes. Built 1-3/4″ thick, 28″ wide and 6-8″ tall. Reclaimed pine jamb and moulding. When you consider the standard fare available, adding a custom door like this can change the entire appearance of a room.

I was talking to a friend once about two of my favorite subjects: wood and doors. He observed, "You know, a door can tell you a lot about a person." I couldn't agree more. Travel abroad and you'll notice tourists who've happened upon a great door, totally taken with it, posing for pictures. Who lives beyond? Who passes through as they go about their day? (Of course I wonder who made it.) There's a story there. Many stories in fact. A good door keeps us safe and keeps our utility bills reasonable. But the right door embraces visitors and family. Makes the neighborhood just that much more interesting. I'd venture, the right door has soul. Story Door Studio creates doors that cause us to take notice, invite our touch and are, in fact, a part of our lives. My name is Gregory Ice and my passion is creating just that.
